Apertura 2017 Week 11 Results: Monterrey 1, Santos 1

The suspended Monterrey-Santos game from Week 11 was completed tonight, resuming in the 12th minute following the game being halted in its original scheduled time due to weather. The game picked up with the score 0-0, and it ended with a 1-1 tie. Brian Lozano put Santos ahead with a 26th minute goal, but Dorlan Pabon scored on a PENAL! to pull Monterrey even, and that’s how it ended. Santos played the final 30+ minutes shorthanded because Amarillas from pre-suspension carried over, and when Ventura Alvarado picked up one in the 61st minute that was on top of one before, so that means a Rojas! HE GONE! His tournament presumably is over as the suspension should be effective for Week 17. Any suspended players for the original game had to sit out the conclusion tonight, which hurt Santos as they were without Julio Furch and his 9 goals so far. The tie means Monterrey does not clinch the regular season title outright, and so their final game against cross-city rivals Tigres will be winner-take-all: If Monterrey wins or it’s a tie, they will finish 1st. If Tigres wins, they finish 1st. The loser will finish 2nd. As for Santos, they can at least throw one last monkey wrench into some playoff possibilities as they have the final game timeslot in Week 17, and they host one of the teams with numerous possibilities-America.
