The newly-promoted Lobos BUAP made their official Liga MX debut yesterday, hosting Santos in their first-ever game at the top level. Naturally it was a day of firsts for the home team, as they turned in a respectable, if not unexpected performance against the visitors, earning their first point in the standings thanks to a 2-2 tie. Lobos’ first-ever Liga goal came in the 14th minute thanks to Santos’ Jorge Enriquez with the first OWN GOAL of the season! Julian Quiones became the eternal trivia answer by scoring the first official Lobos goal in the 31st minute. Osvaldo Martinez & Julio Furch scored the Santos goals, both in the first half. Dating back to the start of last tournament, Santos earned their 12th tie in 18 games, and it looks like that trend may continue this tournament for better or worse. Unfortunately for Lobos a lot of people didn’t get to see them play as they apparently were unable to finalize a TV deal for their home games prior to the start of the season-one of two teams to be in that scenario (Atlas didn’t re-up their old deal and didn’t get a new one done either). At least they have their first road game next week and will be more visible.
