SUPERCOPA MX 2017 Results: Queretaro 2, America 0

The 2016-17 Championship doubleheader in LA today kicked off earlier with SUPERCOPA MX, the matchup of the 2016-17 COPA MX tournament winners. Originally set to be Queretaro vs. Guadalajara, plans changed when the Chivas won the Clausura 2017 Championship as they were replaced by a now-new-look America, as the game featured the team debuts of new coach Miguel Herrera & midfielder Guido Rodriguez, both jumping over from Tijuana. The Gallos Blancos claimed the SUPERCOPA Championship today with a 2-0 win over America.  Emmanuel Villa scored the first goal on a PENAL! in the 12th minute, with Hiram Mier adding the secon goal in the 62nd minute.
Both teams will now return to Mexico to prepare for the start of the 2017-18 tournament next weekend…with, of all things, a rematch! Yes, America will host Queretaro in week 1 of the Apertura 2017.
