The semifinals began tonight with the first of the 2 matchups, Toluca hosting Guadalajara. In the end, an intense, hard-fought affair wound up as a 1-1 tie. Toluca very nearly took the lead in the opening minutes but a very late fuera de lugar nullified a goal. Both goals came in the closing minutes-Rodolfo Pizarro took advantage of a lucky deflected shot to score for the Chivas in the 82nd minute, but when play resumed Fernando Uribe got just enough of his head on a free kick to direct it in to get Toluca on the board, and that’s how it ended. This weekend will be a likely winner-take-all Game 2 although Guadalajara now has an away goal in hand, and if all tiebreakers remain the same they have the higher-seed edge.
