Clausura 2017 Quarterfinals Game 2 Results: Tijuana 2, Morelia 0

Although it took a bad loss in game 1, Tijuana used a combination of a good break then, solid offense and big defense today to bounce back and avoid a second straight quarterfinal embarrassment with a 2-0 home win over Morelia. Henry Martin put Tijuana on the board just before halftime, then Juan Lucero scored the eventual clincher in the 79th minute. With this outcome, Tijuana overcame the 1-0 loss before to win 2-1. It really helped that Morelia lost Raul Ruidiaz to an apparent injury early in game 1, as he was not in the lineup tonight and that could’ve been too much for Morelia to overcome, as their miracle run from near-demotion to the playoffs is over. They’ll have to wait until next year now, but at least for them there will be a next year-or more-at the top tier. Although Tijuana got good news in avoiding bombing out early as the #1 seed again, there is some bad news for them in the next round-Tigres. This result also means Guadalajara will play Toluca in the other semifinal. Dates & times of the games will be announced tomorrow.
