Clausura 2017 Quarterfinals Game 2 Results: Santos 3, Toluca 1

One of Toluca’s biggest problems the second half was its inability to take advantage of big opportunities when presented with such-and it nearly cost them dearly tonight in a 3-1 Santos win in Game 2 of their quarterfinal matchup. The possible collapse started when Toluca’s Enrique Triverio scored a 20th minute OWN GOAL! But he was bailed out in the 41st minute by an Antonio Rios goal to get Toluca to 1-1. Santos answered right away though with a Ulises Rivas score right before halftime. In the second half Santos got a Julio Furch goal in the 59th minute, and that’s how the game ended. Despite the 3-1 win it wasn’t enough for Santos to overcome their 4-1 loss in game 1, and by virtue of a 5-4 total score Toluca hangs on to advance to the semifinals. Now they wait for tomorrow to find out who they play next, namely the early game of Atlas-Guadalajara. Toluca should be rooting hard for Atlas because if the Chivas rally to win the matchup and advance, Toluca has a chance of having to face Tigres. But if Atlas wins, Toluca avoids Tigres and gets either Atlas or Morelia.
