Clausura 2017 Quarterfinals Game 1 Results: Toluca 4, Santos 1

Game 2 of tonight’s opening playoffs doubleheader featured the first half of a Round 17 rematch between Santos & Toluca. It also featured something that hasn’t happened in a good 2 months-a Santos loss. Toluca got it’s postseason run off to a solid start thanks to a 4-1 win in the first game of their matchup. Gabriel Hauche headed in the first Toluca goal in the 13th minute, but Jonathan Rodriguez tied it up with a Santos goal in the 52nd minute. The tie was very short-lived this time, as Enrique Triverio answered with a goal only 2 minutes later to make it 2-1 Toluca. Fernando Uribe’s 78th minute goal got the Toluca lead back to 2, and Carlos Esquivel added a good-measure goal in the 87th minute. With this result tonight, Santos must win the second game on the road by at least 4 goals to have any chance to advance to the semifinals.
