Clausura 2017 Round 17 Results: Pachuca 3, America 2

The matchup that seemingly was going to decide the 8th & final playoff spot actually didn’t. And because of it we will have new Clausura Champions-Pachuca partly did their part though with a 3-2 win over America. Jonathan Urretaviscaya put the Tuzos up 2-0 early with 2 first-half goals, but Manuel Perez pulled America even with back-to-back goals in the 68th & 70th minutes. Oscar Murillo headed in the game-winner in the 79th minute for Pachuca, but despite the win and keeping America out it wasn’t enough for Pachuca because their goal differential for the tournament was 0, which tied them with America but was behind Morelia’s 3, so the Tuzos will not defend their Clausura 2016 Championship. They’ll have to settle for the Liga de Campeones title and the inaugural Liga MX Women championship. America, meanwhile, had their epic slow-start overcoming done in by 3 straight losses to end the year.
