Clausura 2017 Round 16 Results: Pachuca 2, Cruz Azul 2

With the chances of defending their Clausura Championshp fading fast, Pachuca hosted Cruz Azul yesterday with playoff spots on the line for both. In the end the Tuzos’ recent winless skid continued with a 2-2 tie, but only because of some last minute heroics-and oddities. All the goals came in the second half-Franco Jara got Pachuca ahead first, breaking his long scoring slump with a 56th-minute goal, but Richard Ruiz got Cruz Azul even on a header immediately afterward. In the 76th minute, Martin Cauteruccio converted a PENAL! to put Cruz Azul up 2-1, but with extra time winding down Pachuca pulled the old hockey yank-the-goalie trick, and thanks to it, Oscar Perez-the goalie!-scored the game-tying goal on a header! The Oscar Perez who, at age 44, is far and away the oldest player in Liga MX, is even older than the youngest coach (Guadalajara’s Matias Almeyda), has played more than 20 years in the league, is the baldest player in the league, and has even scored a goal for Cruz Azul! It’s his second career goal. Bravo, senor!
