Clausura 2017 Round 16 Results: Veracruz 1, Monterrey 0

Round 16 kicked off tonight with an important game for both participants, and in the end Veracruz all but secured it’s spot in the league next season-and kept it’s playoff hopes alive-with a huge 1-0 win at home over Monterrey. The only goal came via Egidio Arevalo in the 14th minute. Monterrey not only lost a chance at first place, but also Ivan Piris because of 2 Amarillas…Rojas! HE GONE! He got the expulsion in extra time at the end of the game. His regular season is over as he’ll sit out next week. With the win, Veracruz will avoid demotion unless Morelia wins both it’s remaining games and Veracruz loses next week. But they can’t clinch a playoff berth this weekend so it all comes down to next week. Both teams can help each other out because Veracruz’s final foe is Tijuana, so Monterrey still has a shot at first place but only if Tijuana does not win this weekend. Monterrey’s final foe? Morelia.
