Promotion Watch: Halfway To Ascenso Championship

The Ascenso MX Clausura 2017 playoffs have reached the semifinals, here’s the latest update on the race to be promoted to Liga MX next year:
In the quarterfinals, #1 seed Mineros advanced on tiebreakers after playing to a 2-2 tie after 2 games against #8 Cimarrones. Cimaronnes won the first game at home 2-1, but Mineros won the second game 1-0 and because the first playoff tiebreaker is away goals and Mineros had a 1-0 edge there, Mineros avoided the huge upset and moved on. #2 Dorados, the Apertura Champions, looking to sweep both tournaments and possibly get a straight pass right back to Liga MX just one year after demotion, beat #7 Zacatepec 4-0 on the strength of a 4-0 blowout win at home in the second game, following a 0-0 tie in the first game. In the 3-6 matchup, #6 Lobos edged out #3 Alebrijes 2-1 with a 1-0 home win in game 1 then a 1-1 tie in game 2. Finally, the 4-5 pairing saw #4 FC Juarez edge by #5 U.A. Edo. Mex 4-3 on the strength of a 3-2 home win in game 2 after a 1-1 tie in game 1.
In the semifinals, Dorados will play FC Juarez with game 1 Wednesday night at Juarez, while Mineros faces Lobos starting Thursday night at Lobos. The second games will be Saturday night & Sunday night, respectively, at Dorados & Mineros.
