The final game of the weekend seemed to be heading towards a ho-hum affair with nothing happening, but as has often been the case this half it went down to the wire, and in the end it was Santos perhaps saving their playoff chances with a last-second 2-1 win at home over America. For the first 80 minutes very little happened outside of a couple Amarillas near the end of that time, but then business really picked up. In the 82nd minute Jonathan Rodriguez finally broke the ice with a goal for Santos, but Oribe Peralta again seemed poised to be the hero for America, evening the score with an 87th minute goal. But with extra time winding down, late substitute Diego de Buen scored the game-winning goal to help Santos avoid a possible playoff-killing 10th tie and give them only their 5th win of the half, but a huge one as it moves them into 5th place while denying America a playoff berth for now.
