Clausura 2017 Round 11 Results: Tijuana 1, Santos 1

After nearly 2 weeks the on-field action finally resumed with Round 11 getting underway tonight. And as has been a common theme the last month, extra time would determine the outcome, as both Tijuana & Santos avoided losing streaks but Santos was the bigger loser although the scoreboard said it was a 1-1 tie. Osvaldo Martinez scored what looked like it was going to be the only goal in the 22nd minute for Santos, but halfway through second half extra time Juan Lucero netted the game-tying goal for Tijuana to deny Santos 2 extra points. However, Tijuana apparently didn’t get the league’s memo about discipline-then again, neither team did in the last 20 minutes but Tijuana will be much worse for it…first up, in the 82nd minute after Santos got one of several late Amarillas between the teams Tijuana coach Miguel Herrera went and got himself a Rojas! HE GONE! He will now sit out a second game this tournament (the first was the opener stemming from a playoff ejection). Then 4 minutes later Guido Rodriguez & Santos’ Jorge Tavares got tangled up and while seated after falling down Rodriguez got Tavares’ foot in a leglock then kicked at him after letting go. Both got Amarillas but that was Rodriguez’ second of the game-Rojas! HE GONE! If the league continues its crackdown on such rough play he could miss more than one game but we shall see. The point from the tie puts Tijuana in a 3-way tie for the top spot for now while Santos’ playoff chances get hurt by an astounding SEVENTH tie against only 2 wins, which makes them look less impressive despite only having one loss and being just 4 points out of first because of how crazy this second half has been.
