Clausura 2017 Round 9 Results: Monterrey 4, Queretaro 1

A week after seeing their unbeaten streak to open the second half snapped, Monterrey bounced back quickly and ended Queretaro’s recent hot streak with a 4-1 home blowout win. It took the Rayados less than 4 minutes to take the lead on Edwin Cardona’s 2nd of the tournament, but in the 41st minute Queretaro tied it up on-no not Luis Noriega but an Emanuel Villa PENAL! Followed by Amarillas for apparent excessive celebration, something he said with the ref behind him. But the Gallos Blancos reverted to their early season woes after halftime, first when Jonathan Bornstein picked up 2 Amarillas just 5 minutes apart…Rojas! HE GONE! Just a minute later, on a Monterrey cross shot from the corner, Miguel Martinez stepped in front of it to block it but accidentally deflected it in for an OWN GOAL! Efrain Juarez scored on a header for Monterrey in the 75th minute to make it 3-1, and in extra time Jonatan Cristaldo added the final tally to end the rout. Monterrey is now 1 point out of the lead while Queretaro misses a chance to maybe reach the top 5, but are still in the top 8 pending the Pumas-Santos result.
