Clausura 2017 Round 8 Results: Pachuca 1, Veracruz 0

With a chance to regain lost ground to Morelia in the demotion race, Veracruz was close to maintaining their current advantage after Morelia tied today. Close but not close enough as Pachuca denied Veracruz a tie and a point with a last-second 1-0 victory. Franco Jara scored the only goal in second half extra time. But Pachuca suffered a big loss too-Hirving Lozano picked up one of the Tuzos’ 3 Amarillas today, and that’s 5 for him this tournament. As a result, he will have to sit out next week’s game (5 Amarillas in one tournament means an automatic one game suspension). Maybe not as big as it could have been-since his round 1 hat trick he hasn’t scored. Although they do have to go to Tijuana next week and their typical tough defense will surely be tested by the league’s top offense, so who knows.
