Clausura 2017 Round 7 Results: Guadalajara 1, America 0

The second half edition of El Super Clasico, the always-heated rivalry between Guadalajara & America, took place tonight, and the host Chivas sent their fans home happy with a 1-0 win over their arch-rivals. The lone goal came on a PENAL! perfectly played by Angel Zaldivar, the goalie went the wrong way and Zaldivar easily scored. There were plenty of crazy moments in the game, perhaps none moreso than in the 74th minute-thinking the ball was out of bounds and play stopped, America coach Ricardo La Volpe stepped casually onto the field to stop the ball with his foot only to trip the Guadalajara player going for the ball afterwards. La Volpe kicked himself right into a Rojas! HE GONE! He’ll get a week off to practice his timing. This just 25 minute after Miguel Samudio was taken down by a Guadalajara player in such a way to make it look like he instigated the move when maybe he didn’t…nonetheless, Rojas! HE GONE! In spite of those, this one was not as close as the scoreboard suggests, it was all Chivas as they remain within striking distance of league leader Toluca at the top of the standings. America, meanwhile, has only 2 wins through 7 games. And they may be more shorthanded soon at their current pace-William Da Silva became,  by my count so far, the 2nd player this tournament with 4 Amarillas after he picked up one tonight (Veracruz’s Kristian Alvarez is the other). The next one he gets will cost him one game.
