In a battle between teams trying to get & stay above the demotion zone, Atlas held off Cruz Azul on the road 1-0 today. The only goal was scored by Fidel Martinez in the 42nd minute, a close-range kick into the end of the goal misread by the goalie who missed the save. Cruz Azul had several chances to score in the final 15 minutes but just missed on them, most notably a near-miss on a header from a corner kick, and was also kept off the scoresheet despite a huge advantage in shots. Atlas did suffer a big loss at halftime-in the final play of the first half goalie Oscar Ustari went down with what appeared to be an elbow injury, which he suffered going up for the ball and making contact with a Cruz Azul player going for the header. Ustari stayed down while medics tended to him and was taken off on a gurney as the players & officials left the field for halftime. Backup goalie Miguel Fraga played the second half for Atlas.
