Clausura 2017 Round 6 Results: Guadalajara 2, Atlas 1

Guadalajara kept its early lead, and more importantly, it’s composure late in moving up to 2nd in the standings for now with a 2-1 road win at Atlas. The first half was virtually all Chivas on offense punctuated by a PENAL! in the 29th minute, converted by Angel Zaldivar for a 1-0 lead. Orbelin Pineda scored in the 39th minute to make it 2-0. In the second half, Atlas began falling apart in the 70th minute with the first of 4 Amarillas the rest of the way, the real meltdown starting in the 76th minute when, on a Guadalajara throw-in, Daniel Arreola decided not to play nice with Alan Pulido and took a few cheap shots at him, which led to a brief skirmish between both players. Both were issued Amarillas as was Atlas’ Fidel Martinez. Although Martin Barragan scored in the 83rd minute to get Atlas within one, their best chance for the tie at the end of the game was blown away by, perhaps appropriately, Arreola. With time ticking away he took the ball on a change of possession and was pushed down by a Guadalajara player. The linesman was right on top of it and whistled the foul but Arreola let his temper take over again and retaliated, shoving the player hard from behind to the ground. One en fuego pose later and…Rojas! HE GONE! Arreola earned himself a vacation and quite possibly cost his team a chance at a tie. If he gets suspended for more than a game after today he really deserves it. Totally unacceptable behavior today.
