The Gran Final rematch from the previous tournament took place tonight as Tigres hosted America in their first matchup since the Apertura 2016 final, which Tigres won in dominating fashion. With both teams off to slow starts, the matchup didn’t disappoint as Tigres won an exciting 4-2 affair at home. It didn’t even take a minute for the scoring to start as Ismael Sosa scored for Tigres in the opening minute, the team’s first goal of the tournament, but Oribe Peralta pulled America even with a 19th-minute score, his first of the tournament. Neither side let up on the attacking, and Tigres re-took the lead in the 35th minute on Lucas Zelarayan’s strike. after Bruno Valdez pulled America even again at 2-2 early in the second half, Zelarayan added his second of the game in the 54th minute to put Tigres back in front again. In the 83rd minute Sosa added his second of the game as insurance for what would be the final margin. After a surprisingly slow start Tigres has its first win of the tournament while America is an also-surprising 0-2.
