Clausura 2017 Round 2 Results: Santos 2, Veracruz 1

The last game of the Sunday tripleheader featured 2 teams trying to get out of the demotion zone and improve their standings and chances to stick around, although only one team managed that here-it was Santos in a 2-1 home win over Veracruz. Santos took the lead less than 3 minutes in on a Jonathan Rodriguez header, but Eduardo Herrera got Veracruz even with a 15th-minute goal. It stayed that way until the 76th minute when Rodriguez scored his second of the game to put Santos ahead for good. Veracruz lost more than the game and ratio ground on Morelia-they also lost Cristian Pellerano near the end of extra time following a sequence where several players from both teams were going up to head the ball and Pellerano appeared to make upper-body contact with a Santos player afterward who perfectly flopped in front of the ref…Rojas! HE GONE! Both teams were lucky to avoid further carding as there was a bit of arguing & shoving afterwards. Pellerano will be out at least next week unless Veracruz successfully appeals.
