Clausura 2017 Round 2 Results: Pumas 1, Cruz Azul 0

The early game of a Sunday tripleheader continued a weekend trend of keeping the refs, and this week the Disciplinary Committee, busy, and there was more of that in Mexico City where Pumas got their first win of the tournament at home 1-0 over Cruz Azul. Both sides, but especially Pumas, committed a number of fouls early on, Pumas even got 2 in the first minute. The Amarillas started coming in the 23rd minute as both sides got one about 2 minutes apart, then in the 37th minute Gabriel Penalba got caught giving a Pumas player a swift kick to the shin going for the ball in front of the ref…Rojas! HE GONE! Cruz Azul would now be a man down for the last 50+ minutes. Pumas broke through in the 63rd minute as a shot on goal led to Nicolas Castillo’s score. But he helped Pumas as much as he hurt them in the 81st minute as he got carded for a slide tackle from behind. And that was 2 Amarillas so…Rojas! HE GONE! 10 aside for the final few minutes. But Pumas held on for the remainder to get the win and back to the middle of the table after an opening weekend loss.
