Tijuana goalkeeper Federico Vilar announced his retirement yesterday at a press conference held at Estadio Caliente. The 39-year-old Vilar, a native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, played 17 years of pro soccer, the last 13 in Liga MX. His career accolades include the Apertura 2007 Championship with Atlante, the 2008-2009 CONCACAF Champions League Championship with Atlante, the 2013 COPA MX Championship with Morelia, and the Apertura 2007 Best Goalkeeper award. In addition, he made a 2014 COPA MX appearance with Atlas. In his 13 year Liga MX career he appeared in 519 games and finished what would be his final campaign in Tijuana with the club’s first regular season title and 8 shutouts.
