Apertura 2016 Playoffs: America 1, Guadalajara 1

The final playoff quarterfinals started last night with the latest Clasico de Clasicos, which saw America host Guadalajara. It was, as usual, an intense physical matchup that ended score-wise with a 1-1 tie. William Da Silva put the hosts ahead with a 23rd minute goal but the Chivas got a penalty kick at the end of 1st-half stoppage time, and Carlos Salcido converted for the key away goal. Both sides took their shots in the second half-literally in some cases with Guadalajara accumulating 3 Amarillas in a 5-minute span-but they were kept off the scoreboard. With the tie, it’s winner-take-all in the second game but the Chivas also will advance with a 0-0 tie. America can also advance with a 2-2 or higher-scoring tie.
