Apertura 2016 Playoffs: Necaxa 2, Pachuca 1

The second round of quarterfinals matches got underway today, and if #2 Pachuca is to win its second straight regular season title it’s now got an uphill climb after it dropped the first leg of their match with #7 Necaxa today 2-1 at Necaxa. Felipe Gallegos gave the hosts the early lead with a 32nd minute goal, and they held the lead for over 30 minutes until Pachuca got on the board thanks to Victor Guzman’s goal in the 66th minute. Necaxa controlled the ball most of the rest of the way and took the lead for good on Claudio Riano’s 85th minute goal, holding on to win despite a late Amarilla in stoppage time. With the win, Necaxa will just need a win or tie in the second game to end Pachuca’s postseason early, but they also can lose by 1 goal and advance if it’s not 1-0 as Pachuca does have an away goal towards the tiebreaker.
