Apertura 2016 Round 17 Results: Santos 2, Toluca 1

Needing a win to get into the playoffs, Toluca couldn’t get the job done and were soundly outplayed in a 2-1 home loss to Santos. Carlos Izquierdoz put Santos ahead in the 26th minute, then Jonathan Rodriguez added an insurance goal in the 75th minute. Maikon Souza scored to put Toluca on the board in the 88th minute but it was too little too late for the hosts. With the loss Toluca is eliminated from playoff contention, meaning both Necaxa and Leon are in while Monterrey now needs only a Pumas loss later today to make it in.
