Needing a win and a lot of help to have any chance at making the postseason just one tournament removed from a dominant regular season, Monterrey did their part with a 2-1 road win at Morelia. Rogelio Funes Mori put the Rayados on the board first in the 21st minute, then Yimmi Chara added the eventual game-winner in the 55th minute. Raul Ruidiaz scored for Monarcas in the 73rd minute but that was it, and it meant even less in the end given Ruidiaz blew a huge early chance by missing on a penalty kick in the 4th minute. With the win, Monterrey keeps their playoff chances alive but must wait until the final games tomorrow to learn if they are in or not. The loss means Morelia starts the next tournament at the bottom of the quotient table, putting them in danger of demotion if they can’t win a majority of their remaining games, or at least more than Veracruz & Jaguares. If there is one positive for Morelia, Ruidiaz’ goal gives him a share of the tournament goal-scoring title with Tijuana’s Dayro Moreno at the moment, both have 11 goals.
