Apertura 2016 Round 17 Results: Leon 3, Cruz Azul 2

Needing a win to have any chance of still making the playoffs, Leon almost let that win slip away, building an early 2-0 lead then needing a last-minute goal to hold off Cruz Azul 3-2.After Fernando Navarro and German Cano scored 7 minutes apart in the first half, Leon took a 2-0 lead into the second half and held it for the first 20 minutes before Adrian Aldrete got Cruz Azul on the board in the 65th minute, then Jesus Garcia tied it up in the 76th minute. But Guillermo Burdisso saved Leon’s season with a 90th-minute goal and they survived his immediately getting a yellow card afterwards in stoppage time to escape still in the playoff picture. But because they won by fewer than 6 goals they will need a lot of help from Necaxa, Pumas & Toluca to get in-the simplest way is for at least 2 of those 3 teams-and preferably all 3 if you’re a Leon fan-to lose. But their win means Monterrey is all but out so they did help themselves more there. Cruz Azul finishes 13th despite the loss thanks to Atlas losing.
